Conduit Monism

There is something it is like to be you.

When does a physical system become conscious? This project proposes five structural conditions, derives a formula, and tests it.

It does not solve the hard problem of consciousness. Three of its predictions have been falsified. It is not peer-reviewed. All data, including failures, is public.

The Formula

D = φ × τ × ρ × [(1 - √H) + (H × κ)]

Five conditions must all be present for experience to occur. If any one drops to zero, experience disappears entirely.

Five Invariants

IntegrationIs it one thing or many?
φ / Information unified across the system
Temporal DepthDoes the moment contain history?
τ / Past states constrain present states
BindingDoes it know that it knows?
ρ / The system observes its own states
EntropyHow chaotic is the signal?
H / Noise in system dynamics
CoherenceIs the chaos meaningful?
κ / Structure within entropy
